In putting the bike together, I ran into a problem with the standard torque arms that come with the e-bikekit.com's front hub motor. There are two standard torque arms, one for each side of the motor. However, the angle that these torque arms cover doesn't fit the front fork angle of the Surly Instigator front fork. I needed to upgrade these torque arms to ones that have either an adjustable angle or come perfectly matched to the Surly Instigator fork. I didn't know how to measure the angle so am ordering these from Jason at e-bikekit.com. He should have them next week. I need to finalize the rear battery rack situation soon since that will be the next holdup. I'm making good progress though.
I can't wait to see the finished product! Thanks for keeping us posted! I'm going through the same process with you at the moment of putting an Ebike together, I too have a Vpower battery, I read some bad things about it on endless sphere and got worried, did some searching and found your awesome website. At the moment I just have the Front hub/wheel mounted on the bike and the battery on the ground charging, I'm a bit intimidated as I have a mass of wires and not quite sure what to do with them.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you soon.
Hey BustinJustin2K, Don't sweat it. You've probably already got it completed and running. I ran into a problem with the leads from the battery to the BMS coming loose, but it wasn't difficult to get it reconnected. I wanted to use Anderson PowerPoles anyway, so this gave me the excuse to rewire it. No problems. it's a terrific setup. I hope you'll post a picture or web page about your new ride!
ReplyDeleteI'm fitting the same motor/fork combo.
ReplyDeleteDoes your axle go all the way into the fork's slots? Mine does not quite make it to the bottom and the washers ride over the lawyer lips instead of being within them.
Had exactly the same prob with same motor on a Surly 1x1 fork.
